American Nuclear Society to honor leading Argonne scientist
ARGONNE, Ill. – A leading scientist and nuclear engineer at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory has been recognized for distinguished technical achievements by the American Nuclear Society.

Hussein Khalil, director of Argonne's Nuclear Engineering Division, won an award from the American Nuclear Society this year.

Hussein Khalil, director of Argonne’s Nuclear Engineering Division, was selected as a fellow of the American Nuclear Society, the pre-eminent professional association for nuclear science and technology. The award recognizes Khalil’s contributions to reactor physics and dynamics, fast-reactor design and nuclear fuel-cycle analysis. A senior scientist at Argonne since 2001, Khalil has helped to steer Argonne’s nuclear energy and nuclear nonproliferation research and development.

Khalil is also DOE’s technical integration director for nuclear energy advanced modeling and simulation and is one of two U.S. representatives to the Experts Group of the Generation IV International Forum, a group of 12 countries and international organizations developing future generation nuclear reactors and their underlying technologies.

The award will be officially presented tomorrow in San Diego.
