Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and Sigma Xi, a scientific research society, present IIT Research Day, a day to celebrate the diverse research activities that take place across the university campus. The event begins with a student poster competition that allows students to showcase their research at 1 pm. Tuesday, April 22 at IIT’s McCormick Tribune Campus Center (MTCC) Auditorium and Ballroom, 3201 South State St., Chicago.
Following the student poster competition, Sigma Xi is holding a lecture by Doctor Raymond Bair, Chief Computational Scientist in the Computing, Environment and Life Science Directorate at Argonne National Laboratory. The lecture, titled ​“Leadership Computing at Argonne,” will discuss the new capabilities at Argonne Leadership Commuting Facility which opened in 2008, the wide array of science and engineering underway there and the opportunities for scientists to take advantage of leadership computing facilities operated by the U.S. Department of Energy.

Bair earned his Ph.D. from California Institute of Technology and is a senior fellow in the Computation Institute at University of Chicago.

The event concludes with an awards ceremony in which Student Sigma Xi Research Awards and Poster Competition Awards are presented.
