Rick Stevens to Speak on U.S. HPC and AI Computing Efforts to Address COVID-19 at ISC 2020

Stevens will give a brief overview of the science, the state of play, and how HPC and AI are being used to speed progress toward solutions.

Rick Stevens, of Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Chicago, will present this week at a virtual ISC 2020 focus session describing how the U.S. is applying high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) to COVID-19-related research problems, including the following two large initiatives.

Launched in the spring of 2020, the COVID-19 HPC consortium brings together 40 U.S. supercomputing centers, computing and technology vendors, and federal agencies to provide computing resources — more than 136K nodes and 558 petaflops — to conduct 66 SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 research projects.

DOE has also convened nine of its national laboratories, including Argonne, to apply advanced computing to develop molecular therapeutics for COVID-19. Stevens will give a brief overview of the science, the state of play, and how HPC and AI are being used to speed progress toward solutions.

ISC High Performance 2020 Digital, which will be held virtually June 22-25, focuses on critical developments and trends in high-performance computing, machine learning, and data analytics for the benefit of the global HPC community.
