Argonne researchers Amgad Elgowainy and Krishna Reddi have patented their system for precooling gaseous fuel supplied for fueling pressurized gaseous vehicle onboard storage tank systems. The precooling system is used in pressurized gaseous fueling stations with the source fuel in cryogenic state, i.e., liquid hydrogen. The precooling system has the potential to reduce precooling equipment cost at hydrogen fueling stations by up to 90%.
