An Introduction to Commercial Transport R&D at Aramco and the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative

Energy Systems Seminar

Abstract: Aramco’s Detroit Research Center is engaged in the co-development of engines and fuels in an effort to identify and mature technologies that contribute to a more sustainable transportation sector. I will provide an overview of activities currently ongoing at the center that focus on the heavy-duty on- and off-road markets. These projects include heavy-duty gasoline compression-ignition engine development, an opposed-piston, low-NOx two-stroke demonstration engine, and a Class 8 low-CO2 technology demonstrator that features mobile carbon capture technology.

The Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI), a voluntary, CEO-led oil and gas industry initiative, aims to catalyze meaningful actions on climate change through collaboration and engagement. A brief introduction will be presented.

Bio: Michael Traver is the leader for the Commercial Transport Fuels Research Team at Aramco’s Detroit Research Center. He also chairs the OGCI Transportation Workstream. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in mechanical engineering from West Virginia University and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
