Assessing and Improving Radar-Based Rainfall Estimates in the Philippines

EVS Seminar

Abstract: Sitting on the most active basin in terms of tropical cyclone activity, the Philippines is susceptible to strong and frequent typhoons, as well as enhanced monsoon rains and severe thunderstorms. These conditions raise a need for accurate rainfall estimates with high spatial and temporal resolution. With the (relatively) new radar network in the Philippines, how well can we estimate rainfall and how can we improve it? What is the role of open-source software in Philippine radar?
