On behalf of the Vehicle Technologies Office at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Glenn Research Center (GRC), we invite you to participate in an event at Argonne National Laboratory to assess the impact of battery research and development on emerging electric aviation. 

Over the past decade, DOE-sponsored research efforts have spurred new battery technologies that have ushered in a new era of mobility through the electrification of vehicles. We are now poised to expand these innovations into the aviation sector where further cost reductions and greater energy and power density requirements are needed for the large-scale deployment of electric aircraft.

This event will follow on the battery workshop hosted by NASA Glenn in August 2017 with a more specific focus on the similarities and differences between electrified vehicles and electrified aircraft, the near-term battery and long-term battery needs for this application, and the pack and infrastructure needs to enable electric aviation to become commercially viable. We anticipate that this event will result in a deeper understanding on how far innovations in batteries for electric vehicles will push deployment of electric aircraft and what new requirements need to be met that require further R&D. We also expect the event to help foster further interactions and collaborations between the battery community and the aeronautics community.
