Designing a Portable Micro-CT for Mars Exploration

XSD/CXS Special Presentation

Abstract: Colonizing Mars is an ambitious project of NASA and SpaceX. Searching for evidence of habitability and taphonomy on Mars now becomes a primary objective. An X-ray microtomography system is a critical tool for these searches. However, it is very challenging to build a system that must be portable, to be carried by a rover, and durable, to work in the tough environment of Mars. NASA and SETI are funding a project to build a micro-CT system. This talk presents the latest results of the project, where I am involved in developing data processing software for the system.
