Interface Understanding: Tools and Challenges

Abstract: The challenge for this century is to produce energy using sustainable sources and decrease carbon monoxide emissions from industrial processes. In this scenario, electrochemical devices such as fuel cells, batteries, and electrolysers development are crucial to enable a circular economy in modern society. Although all these devices are already commercially available, fundamental research is needed for deep comprehension of these interface processes. Same properties including the activity and stability of electrodes, composition, and morphology, and even the electrochemical side reactions and surface poisoning by subproducts.

In this talk, I will present some of the electrochemical and material science tools which can be used to investigate electrochemical reactions, namely single crystal electrodes, shape-controlled nanoparticles, alloyed nanomaterials, and DFT calculations.
