Looking at the Proton in 3-D (in momentum space)

PHY Colloquium

Abstract: How are quarks and gluons distributed inside the proton? We describe the internal structure of the nucleon in terms of parton distribution functions. When considering the arrangement of partons in 3-D momentum space, we introduce the concept of transverse-momentum dependent distribution functions (TMDs). I will discuss recent advances in the study of TMDs.
