Materials Chemistry for Optoelectronics and for Decarbonization

NST Colloquium

Abstract: Emerging materials – such as quantum dots, perovskites, and metal and metal oxide nanoparticles – are urgently needed to advance both consumer electronics and large-scale decarbonization of electricity, fuels, and chemicals. I will discuss recent advances in light sensors, LEDs and photovoltaics, and in CO2 reduction electrocatalysts, all enabled by progress in the synthesis and physicochemical understanding of such materials.

Bio: Ted Sargent is University Professor at the University of Toronto where he holds the Canada Research Chair in Nanotechnology. In 2021, it was announced that he will join Northwestern University as the Lynn Hopton Davis and Greg Davis Professor, with appointments in the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
