Pushing the Limits of Accelerator Technology: A Path Toward a Brighter Beam

ASD Seminar

Abstract: In this talk, I will present theoretical and experimental activities being conducted in the Accelerator Physics Group at the University of Chicago. I will highlight several collaborative efforts with Argonne on  advanced accelerator concepts. In particular, I will discuss the collinear Wakefield accelerator prototype being built at the Advanced Photon Source and two experiments that are being planned in collaboration with the University of California and Northern Illinois University. I will give an overview of materials science research on field emission cathodes and breakdown phenomena that is being done in collaboration with the Department of Engineering at Michigan State University. In conclusion, I will talk about one of the projects at the Center for Bright Beams collaboration that is focused on dynamic aperture optimization.
