Scale-Up of Advanced Fuel Cell Catalysts

AMD Seminar

Abstract: Nanomaterials are known to be notoriously difficult to scale up while still keeping control over particle morphology and elemental composition profile. Applied Materials (AMD) in collaboration with Materials Science (MSD) undertake an effort to develop scalable processes for producing advanced fuel cell nanocatalysts at scale. The aim of the effort is to bridge the gap between fundamental research in a discovery lab and material validation at the prototype level.

In this presentation, I will discuss the challenges and successes in process research and development (R&D) , engineering, and scale up of several advanced fuel cell catalyst systems. Significant improvement both at the R&D level and in MEA testing will be presented. AMD’s vision of science-based advanced manufacturing of nanomaterials in a continuous flow reactor will also be discussed.
