Argonne’s Kevin Brown gives talk at Illinois Tech

Kevin Brown, Walter Massey Fellow in the Mathematics and Computer Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory, gave a presentation at Illinois Tech on April 23, 2023, as part of the Frederica Darema Lecture Series.

In his talk, titled Simulating High-Performance Computing (HPC): The Good, the Bad, and the Opportunities,” Brown acknowledged that techniques such as parallel discrete events simulations (PDES) are helping improve the time to prediction for HPC simulations. But, he emphasized, challenges remain with PDEs because of model scale and complexity. Brown discussed opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaborations to address such challenges.

Brown received his Ph.D. from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2018. He joined Argonne as a postdoctoral researcher, where he conducts network performance and analysis.

The Dr. Frederica Darema Lecture Series in Computer Science at Illinois Tech is funded by an endowment to help advance female and minority early-stage computer science researchers at U.S. academic institutions.
