Marin named to editorial board of SIAM News

Oana Marin, an assistant applied mathematics specialist in the Mathematics and Computer Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory, has been selected for the editorial board of SIAM News.

As the news journal of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, SIAM News covers cutting-edge research in applied mathematics and computational science. It also includes less technical articles of potential interest to the general mathematics community, as well as articles on science policy and mathematics education.

Marin is a numerical analyst whose research interests include the development, mathematical analysis, software implementation and application of numerical algorithms. She joined Argonne in 2013, where she has focused on computational fluid dynamics, adding fundamental new technologies to the spectral element code Nek5000. In addition, Marin has devised numerical schemes for partial differential equations (PDEs) and has explored the use of PDE-constrained optimization and PDE-based uncertainty quantification. Previously, she worked on modeling and developing algorithms for boundary integral equations, with a focus on high-order treatment on singularities and efficient solutions of dense linear systems. She also works closely with engineers and application scientists, assisting them with the computational and numerical techniques they need for scalability and efficiency.

Marin holds a Ph.D. in applied mathematics and a master’s degree in scientific computing from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology. For further information about her research, see her website https://www.mcs.anl.gov/~oanam/.
