MCS researchers play major role at SIAM CSE21

The Mathematics and Computer Science (MCS) Division at Argonne National Laboratory played a major role at the SIAM Conference on Computational Science and Engineering (SIAM CSE21). The virtual conference was held March 1–5, 2021.

The annual conference was co-chaired Stefan Wild, a senior computational mathematician in the MCS Division. Among the division activities at the conference were the following:

  • An invited minitutorial on automatic differentiation as a tool for computational science
  • 19 minisymposia on topics including characterization of rare events, optimization methods in scientific machine learning, exascale applications for high-order partial differential equation solvers, sustainability and productivity for research software, performance portability analysis, and a library for scalable network multiphysics simulations
  • More than 50 presentations and posters

Argonne sponsored the Broader Engagement program at SIAM CSE21, and Argonne researchers were active in the conference’s mentoring program.

Argonne also participated in the virtual Career Fair,” which provided an opportunity for job seekers to find out more about employment and student opportunities at Argonne.
