Rising Stars is an intensive workshop for women graduate students and postdoctoral researchers who are interested in pursuing academic and research careers. Established in 2012, it has been held at institutions worldwide. The workshop includes two days of research presentations, poster sessions, and interactive discussions about academic and research careers.

Ngom will present a talk on ​“Targeted Adaptive Design,” a novel probabilistic machine learning framework that aims at finding optimal parameters for design problems arising from manufacturing applications. This research is being done in collaboration with Carlo Graziani, a computational scientist in Argonne’s MCS division. 

Ngom received her Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Chicago in 2019. She then joined Argonne, where she is pursuing research in numerical analysis and partial differential equations. In 2021, Ngom was recognized as a Black History Month Honoree on the website Mathematically Gifted & Black.
