Compressing the CBRN Response and Recovery Timeline

Testing and evaluating response and recovery methods to strengthen preparedness for CBRN releases.

Did You Know?

A widespread release of a chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear (CBRN) threat agent in the urban environment or within critical infrastructure can severely limit the ability to respond and recover.

Opportunity

The United States and its allies have addressed many aspects of the response timeline, but some areas still require attention. During recovery, most locations will require guidance including recovery options, equipment and asset requirements, method efficacy, and decision-making tools.

Solution

S3 boasts the nation’s leading experts in wide-area recovery methods for radioactive and nuclear contamination events.

Results

In collaboration with the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and Environmental Protection Agency, Argonne tests mitigation and recovery methods for RN contamination, as well as methods of protecting critical infrastructure against CBRN releases. Using our expertise in methods and their efficacy, we develop guidance and tools for the United States and its allies.
