Modeling and Analytics

Modeling technologies for analyzing and planning military operations to aid decision makers in determining and evaluating possible courses of action.

Did You Know?

The Modeling and Analytics team has developed multiple tools for the Department of Energy (DOE), the Department of Defense (DOD), and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to inform decision makers regarding the pros and cons of multiple courses of action.

Opportunity

The United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) requires tools to evaluate:

  • Transportation feasibility of Operational Plans
  • Infrastructure Capabilities
  • Asset (Air, Sea, Road, and Rail) shortfalls
  • Joint Logistics Over The Shore (JLOTS) / Seabasing
  • Dynamic Sustainment
  • Concepts of Operation for deployment and sustainment
  • Force structure changes to Defense Transportation System (DTS)

Solution

Argonne has developed and integrated technologies into the Analysis of Mobility Platform (AMP) for complex modeling and simulation development. This includes:

  • Strategic and Theater Planning Modeling
  • Detailed Simulation of Sea, Air, Road, Rail, and Pipeline Operations
  • Causal Analysis for problem identification
  • Algorithm Assessments
  • Model Integration (AMP, MIDAS, and ELIST)
  • Network Optimization for strategic mode selection
  • Business Analytics for data mining
  • High Performance Computing for design of experiments
  • Cloud computing
  • Constraints identification

Results

Argonne developed the AMP model to analyze military deployment, the Next Generation Simulation and Analysis Model (NGSAM) to model the storage and transportation of spent nuclear fuel; and Interactive Scenario Builder which allows the navy to model and visualize radio frequency propagation.
