Andrew Erwin

Postdoctoral Appointee

Biography

Andrew is a postdoctoral researcher in the Materials Science Division. After receiving undergraduate degrees at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he went on to obtain a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Georgia Tech in 2021 where he examined the effect of branched polymer architecture on the interactions, morphology, and functional properties of polyelectrolyte materials. Current research areas within the Soft Matter Group at Argonne include:

• Using captured CO2 as a chemical feedstock towards synthesizing poly(ionic liquid)s that are applied for the reversible capture and release, fixation, and electrochemical reduction of CO2 for a circular carbon economy
• Synthesizing and characterizing organic redox gating materials as well as evaluating their integration into high-density, low-power CMOS devices using printed electronics technology
