Beth A. Drewniak

Earth Scientist

Biography

Beth Drewniak is an earth scientist in the Environmental Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory. Dr. Drewniak is also a fellow with the Northwestern Argonne Institute of Science and Engineering. She received a Masters in atmospheric science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and PhD in biology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Drewniak has worked at Argonne since 2006. Her primary interest is understanding the role that human land management plays on water, energy, and biogeochemical cycles. Dr. Drewniak specializes in land surface modeling and has participated in the development of two Earth System Models. She is currently the lead developer of the agriculture model in DOE-BER’s Energy Exascale Earth System Model due to her extensive experience adding agriculture and other farming practices to climate models. Her other research activities span a wide breadth of topics including land use and land cover change, root dynamics, optimization techniques for biomass allocation, chemical transport of mercury, biogenic emissions, uncertainty quantification and parameter calibration of climate models, and urban landscape impacts on climate.
