Carlos Hernandorena is a Principal Investigator and Senior Intelligence Analyst at Argonne National Laboratory in the National Preparedness Analytics Center of the Decision and Infrastructure Sciences Division. Carlos manages and supports a broad portfolio of national security projects at Argonne with a number of federal agencies including the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the U.S. Department of State. Carlos is responsible for conceptualizing and producing a variety of intelligence-related products including executive briefings for senior government officials and intelligence analysis related to critical infrastructure. He has been at Argonne since December 2016.

Before coming to Argonne, Carlos spent seven years with the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) where he served as an intelligence officer. While at DIA, Carlos provided tactical and operational intelligence support to federal agencies targeting transnational criminal organizations and terrorist groups. He also supported senior Department of Defense officials by providing long-range strategic assessments on a variety of defense and national security threats. Prior to working with DIA, Carlos spent two years working with the U.S. Department of State with the Provincial Reconstruction Team program where he acted as an interagency facilitator for reconstruction efforts in Iraq.

Carlos received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia and a Master of Arts degree in Policy and International Affairs from Texas A&M University.
