Chunyong Jung

Postdoctoral Appointee

Biography

Chunyong Jung is a Postdoctoral Appointee with a joint appointment in the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility. He has expertise in atmospheric dynamics, synoptic meteorology, and atmospheric numerical modeling. He is leading the convection-allowing regional climate modeling project, employing the dynamical downscaling approach. He has been focusing on climate change effects on high-impact weather events, such as heavy precipitation systems and tropical cyclones and their transition to extratropical cyclones through high-resolution idealized modeling.

Chunyong Jung holds a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences from North Carolina State University (2020), as well as M.S. and B.S. degrees in the same field from Yonsei University in South Korea. After a postdoc at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he joined the Environmental Science Division in December 2021, working on Climate change impacts on extreme weather systems.
