Corby B. Schmitz

IT Multi-Functional Leader 2

Biography

Currently serving as the PSE Information Technology Manager supporting scientific research and engagement with central IT to provide the best experience for users within the PSE directorate. This is a continuation of a 20 year career at the Laboratory exploring my passion for IT within both the mission support (BIS) and programmatic communities (CELS). My focal areas have been High Performance Computing/Networking, cyber-security, as well as campus networking and telecommunications. Most recently, I served as the Network and Telecommunications Operations and Support Manager within BIS.

I hold a MS in Computer Science from Loyola University of Chicago where I have also served as an adjunct faculty member since 2000. I teach a variety of courses, but have developed a cyber-security curriculum with emphasis on intrusion detection, network security and wireless networking.

I have been a volunteer participant in the annual Super Computing conference, sponsored by IEEE and ACM. The IT organization within the conference is, called SCinet, is responsible for building the world’s fastest temporary network to facilitate scientific demonstrations on the conference show-floor. I have served in a number of positions, both technical and leadership over the past 15 years. In 2016, I led the SCinet organization and served on the conference Executive Committee. Most recently, I have worked with the scientific demonstrators to orchestrate their demonstrations across the network infrastructure to provide the greatest chance of success.
