Daniel Walsh is the Chief Security Officer and Director of the Safeguards and Security (SAS) Division at Argonne National Laboratory.

Biography

Daniel Walsh is the Chief Security Officer and Director of the Safeguards and Security (SAS) Division at Argonne National Laboratory. In this role, Daniel oversees the safety of our people, visitors, facilities and information. He leads a matrixed, cross-functional security organization comprised of classified programs, nuclear materials safeguards, physical security, personnel security, and cyber security, in partnership with counterintelligence, and national security field intelligence.

Prior to joining Argonne, Daniel served as Director of the Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA) starting in December 2019. He was responsible for providing a full range of law enforcement, threat management, force protection and emergency management services to protect people, facilities, infrastructure and other resources at the Pentagon Reservation and in DoD-occupied facilities in the National Capital Region. He was also responsible for establishing and implementing the agency’s strategic security and technology objectives, with a broad agency portfolio of technology integration programs, information technology, construction management, and security operations. He joined the PFPA in 2008 as a scientist in the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives Directorate.

Daniel received his Ph.D. in chemistry from New York University and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Scranton.
