Donghyeon Kang

Materials Scientist

Donghyeon Kang is a Materials Scientist with (photo)electrochemistry and thin-film processing background.

Biography

Donghyeon Kang is a Materials Scientist, based on (photo)electrochemistry and thin-film processing for inorganic materials. He is currently working on battery projects including an ultra-thin Li-metal electrodeposition project and functional coatings on various battery materials. He also leads several recycling/upcycling projects via electrochemical processing. He is eager to apply his electrochemistry background to manufacturing processes for decarbonization manufacturing processes as DOE targets.

Research Interest

  • Thin film preparation & coatings - Electrodeposition, atomic layer deposition (ALD)
  • (Photo)electrochemistry - Water splitting, CO2 reduction, N2 reduction
  • Circular Economy - Electrochemical upcycling/recycling processes for plastic, biomass, and Li-ion battery materials
  • Next-Generation Batteries - Lithium metal batteries, solid-state batteries

Education

  • Ph.D. in Materials Chemistry, University of Wisconsin – Madison
  • M.S. in Inorganic Chemistry, Sogang University in Seoul, South Korea
  • B.S. in Chemistry, Sogang University in Seoul, South Korea
