Elmie A. Peoples-Evans

Project Manager, Advanced Photon Source Upgrade

Biography

Elmie Peoples-Evans is project manager of the Advanced Photon Source (APS) Upgrade (APS-U). She has been an integral part of the APS-U team since joining Argonne in 2012. Prior to stepping into the interim manager role in December 2021, she served as deputy project manager for three years, and before that as associate project manager of operations. She has been involved in every aspect of the Upgrade project, and provides an interface with other areas of Argonne, including finance, procurement, and receiving. She has extensive experience managing large projects and is a well-respected member of the APS-U management team.

Elmie was part of the first cohort to attend the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Project Leadership Institute (PLI) in 2017 and has remained active with the program ever since. She studied electrical engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign and earned master’s degrees in business administration from the University of Chicago and electrical engineering from Northwestern University. Before joining Argonne, Elmie worked at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory on one of its major accelerator projects.

Elmie will team up with project director Jim Kerby to guide the project through the year-long installation period, scheduled to begin in April 2023. With first light slated for 2024 and a scheduled completion date of 2026, the upgraded APS will be one of the centerpieces of Argonne’s plan to transform science at the Lab, and the world-leading facility will open new doors of science and innovation.
