Fredrik Tovesson

Division Director

Dr. Fredrik Tovesson is the division director for the Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory.

Biography

Dr. Tovesson has more than 15 years of experience in experimental nuclear physics and nuclear technology. He came to Argonne in 2019 from Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he worked since 2004. Tovesson did detail work with the National Nuclear Security Agency (NNSA) in Washington, D.C., from 2017 to 2019. At NNSA he served as a technical advisor in the Office of Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation R&D, working primarily on radiation detection technology. He also supported the Office of Science’s Nuclear Physics program as the advisor for nuclear data, working on interagency coordination. Prior to this, Tovesson led accelerator-based nuclear science experiments at Los Alamos that supported national security and nuclear energy programs. Tovesson earned a doctorate in nuclear physics from Örebro University, Sweden. He is an affiliated faculty member of the ​physics department at the Colorado School of Mines and is an executive committee ​member of the Accelerator Applications Division of the American Nuclear Society.
