Communications Coordinator

Biography

Gillian King-Cargile is passionate about creating articles, books, digital media, events, and experiences that help people learn more about the world around them. She has a B.A. in Film Production and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Southern Illinois University.

At Argonne National Laboratory, Gillian works closely with researchers in the Computing, Environment and Life Sciences Directorate. She creates press releases, articles, videos, and other media to share stories of Argonne’s cutting-edge research and pivotal discoveries that are shaping the future of everything from human health to clean energy to climate resilience.

Before joining Argonne, Gillian worked in communications and university outreach where she created an innovative reading program that used popular fiction books as a gateway to explore science, technology, engineering, and math. Her program created virtual games, educator resources, author and expert videos, summer camps, podcasts, and day-long, live-action events that helped ravenous and reluctant readers experience STEM learning in a whole new way.

In addition to her science communications work, Gillian is also the author of several books and stories for adults and children. In everything she does, Gillian seeks to use her humor, creativity, and curiosity to kindle a love of learning.
