Jake Thomas McLain

Ion Source Engineer

Biography

Jake is an engineer that works with the ion sources at the Argonne Tandem Linac Accelerator System (ATLAS) facility. He has years of experience with plasma source design, which was the focus of his research at the University of Illinois. Upgrading, maintaining, designing and operating the ATLAS ion sources and relevant subsystems is the majority of Jake’s work, but he also simulates the extraction of beams from ion sources and models magnetics to optimize ECR ion sources and the beams being delivered to the ATLAS accelerator.
