John K Hutchison

Operations Research Lead

Biography

John K. Hutchison joined Argonne National Laboratory in 2019 and currently serves as an Assistant Operations Research Analyst in the Decision and Infrastructure Sciences division. He has primarily worked with the Federal Protective Service Modified Infrastructure Survey Tool (MIST) and Threat Assessment Report (TAR), as well as with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Infrastructure Assessments and Analysis team and the Infrastructure Survey Tool (IST). In his work, he applies mathematical and statistical expertise to address and understand critical infrastructure asset- and system-level preparation and response strategies for emerging risks such as natural hazards and infectious disease outbreaks.

Hutchison is a current participant in Argonne’s Launchpad Program, designed to provide motivated early- and mid-career researchers with enhanced training and mentoring for developing multimillion-dollar sponsored research programs. As part of the Launchpad Program, his team is developing a tool that applies natural language and machine learning techniques to provide an understanding of climate adaptation research at scale.

Hutchison previously served for the U.S. Army as an Infantry officer for more than ten years, including tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan. His career goal is to study decision analysis and the tools that support this critical field.
