Structural Biologist

The primary interest of Dr. Michalska is structural biology with a focus on structure-function relationships in biochemical transformations.

Biography

Dr. Karolina Michalska completed her PhD in Chemistry in 2007 at Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznan, Poland. She joined Argonne in 2010 as a postdoctoral appointee at Midwest Center for Structural Genomics and Structural Biology Center. Currently she is a protein crystallographer at X-Ray Science Division and a scientist at the Consortium for Advanced Science and Engineering, University of Chicago.

The primary interest of Dr. Michalska is structural biology with a focus on structure – function relationships in biochemical transformations. Currently she works on three major projects involving protein-protein complexes and large oligomeric assemblies. These include bacterial contact dependent growth inhibition (CDI) system, tryptophan synthase, and aminoacyl tRNA synthetases. She is also contributing to the structural biology of SARS-CoV-2.
