Thabiso Kunene

Biography

Thabiso is a postdoctoral researcher in Argonne’s Emerging Materials Group. He is interested in interfacial processes relevant to the catalysis mechanisms that control the selectivity and activity of catalysts relevant to energy conversion and storage. He is attracted to the combination of homogeneous and heterogeneous photoelectrocatalysis principles to develop new and better earth abundant catalysts. He is also interested in the rational design of highly active catalysts based on metallic and intermetallic compounds for electrochemical energy storage applications including electrolyzers, metal air batteries, and fuel cells. Thabiso’s current work is focused on the rational design of novel catalysts for CO2 conversion via atomic layer deposition of well-defined and isolated metal clusters. Thabiso has expertise in electroanalytical characterization of heterogenous and molecular electrocatalysts.
