Biography

Dr. Tom Ewing has a broad background in applied physics, mathematics, and computing; over 30 years experience in nuclear energy research, modeling and simulation, and technical program development and management. In addition to his division management role, he has led large, international collaborations, served as project manager or collaborator in multilab initiatives for DOE and other government agencies, and directed major Argonne programs.

Most recently, he has had a lead role in shaping Argonne management and work processes for effective and safe conduct of work (helping Argonne becoming the first ISO9000-certified national lab); he has championed strong relationships between Argonne and regional transportation and security agencies to improve mobility and security in the Midwest, leading to a number of new funded programs; he is co-leading an effort to establish a major new Lab initiative in nuclear materials, and he runs an international program involving multiple national laboratories for NNSA to reduce nuclear nonproliferation.

Tom Ewing has a BS in Engineering Physics and a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering. He serves on a number of university and national advisory boards, and has well over 100 publications.
