Biography

Dr. Timothy Lichtenstein is a Chemical Engineer in the Chemical and Fuel Cycle Technologies Division. His expertise is in electrochemistry, molten salt chemistry, and experimental thermodynamics. His current research is focused on determining the fundamental thermochemical and thermophysical properties of molten salts as well as the development and scale-up of electrochemical separations to enable recycling of nuclear fuels and electronic device wastes.

He has co-authored 20 articles and holds two U.S. patents. He received his Ph.D. from Penn State University and a B.S. from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, both in Materials Science and Engineering.
