Current Role

Surface and subsurface hydrology, hydrogeology, mathematical modeling of surface and subsurface systems

Capabilities

  • Superfund projects, Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III environmental assessments and design.
  • Assessment of hydrogeologic, hydrologic, and geochemical environment with particular emphasis on groundwater hydrology and contaminant hydrogeology.
  • Preparation of environmental impact assessments for hazardous waste disposal facilities.
  • Technical support to multidisciplinary projects including hazardous waste investigations and feasibility studies, remediation of contaminated groundwater including LNAPLs and DNAPLs, permitting studies, and mining projects.
  • Numerical and analytical modeling for flow and contaminant transport in groundwater (in porous and fractured media) and surface water systems.
  • RCRA/CERCLA site remedial investigation/feasibility studies (RI/FS) and remediation projects including data analysis, in-house model development, development of modeling studies ranging from simplified analytical models up to complex three-dimensional numerical groundwater flow and contaminant transport models.
  • Site drainage (surface drainage, canals, ditches, and culverts; erosion protection, gravity sewer systems).
  • Waste disposal facilities (solid waste dry disposal areas, ponded disposal facilities such as evaporation ponds and ash ponds, lining systems including geomembrane, clay, concrete and composite liners).
  • Landfill permitting and design (site selection studies; design, plans, and specifications; liner and cap design).
  • Design and seepage analysis of levees.
  • Hydraulic design of water tunnels and piping and canal systems.
  • Various applications of soil mechanics.
  • Familiar with the use of numerous publicly-available computer codes for groundwater and surface water systems.
  • Experience working with lawyers on various projects.
  • Group management, project management, technical management, and mentoring.

Career Highlights

  • University professor involved in teaching (in the areas of ground water hydraulics and hydrology, and surface water hydraulics) and research activities, as well as Department Head.
  • Associate editor for the Journal of Hydrologic Engineering of the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) and reviewer for various scientific journals.
