The MY2012 Toyota Prius PHV is the first production iteration of Toyota's hybrid system to be produced as a plug in electric vehicle, with a 4.4kWh lithium-ion battery. This vehicle includes a 1.8L Atkinson-cycle engine, two electric machines (one motor, one generator) with a power-split device used to control the blended allocation of energy between the two power paths.
