Small business success story: Vacuum Technology Incorporated

Based in Oak Ridge, Vacuum Technology Incorporated (VTI) has been a provider of calibrated leaks, vacuum hardware, and custom vacuum systems and services since 1985.

For the past 4 years, VTI has been able to secure several sub-contracts from Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) for vacuum related products and services for the Advanced Photon Source Upgrade (APS-U) Project and other necessities from ANL’s purchasing team.

One competitive project from APS-U called on the fabrication, quality control, testing and supporting documentation of 572 Vacuum Chamber Support stands, a very critical procurement. With a great technical evaluation and price savings, the project was awarded to VTI out of the 9 responses.

This project and items were to be delivered to ANL in batches by December of 2022. VTI’s entire shipment was delivered four and a half months early and completely on budget. VTI worked diligently and closely with the ANL’s tech reps to get this project completed.

ANL’s purchasing team that worked on this project said VTI’s attention to detail, drive, and focus kept this project ahead of schedule. Thanks to this, VTI delivered a superior product without an issue. Awarding this project to a small business was definitely in the best interest of APS-U and ANL.
