Accelerator Design and Development

Scientists around the world rely on particle accelerators to yield insights on the structure and function of materials at and below the atomic scale.

These accelerators range in size from portable machines for producing medical isotopes to enormous miles-wide colliders for high-energy physics.

In order to further develop our understanding of matter and the fabric of the cosmos, we must continue to expand the horizon of accelerator technology. We need to be able to build accelerators with greater intensities and energies so that we can continue to reveal the secrets of the universe. Argonne’s scientists have decades of expertise in accelerator design and are uniquely positioned to help continue America’s proud tradition of research in this area.
