The Physical Sciences and Engineering (PSE) directorate at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory has announced the awardees for the 2022 PSE Early Investigator Named Award program.
The program is designed to support exceptional early career researchers at Argonne as they break into their fields. Awardees receive funding, mentorship and additional support to conduct ground-breaking research aligned with Argonne’s strategic mission.
The PSE program will provide awardees with the opportunity to gather preliminary data for use in defining and clarifying compelling proposals, as well as mentorship and support within the laboratory community.
“Investing in researchers in the early stages of their careers is crucial to maintaining U.S. leadership in science and technology,” said Kawtar Hafidi, Associate Laboratory Director for PSE. “We are proud to support this outstanding cohort of scientists as they develop their research in priority areas and forge collaboration across Argonne and with outside institutions.”
The 2022 cohort includes:
Ashley Bielinski, Materials Science (MSD)
- Proposal title: “Thermodynamic guiding principles for area selective atomic layer deposition”
- Mentor: Alex B.F. Martinson (MSD)
Dafei Jin, Nanoscience and Technology (NST)
- Proposal title: “A nanoscale quantum surface probe by a single electron qubit”
- Mentor: Gary Wiederrecht (NST)
Marco Siciliano, Physics (PHY)
- Proposal title: “Development of MOSAIC for reaction studies at Argonne”
- Mentor: Michael P. Carpenter (PHY)
Marco Trovato, High Energy Physics (HEP)
- Proposal title: “Implementation of intelligent algorithms in future detector frontends”
- Mentors: Jinlong Zhang (HEP)
