January 2020 PSE Employees of the Month

Marcia Wood and Magali Ferrandon are recognized as PSE Employees of the Month

The Physical Sciences and Engineering (PSE) Employees of the Month program recognizes two individuals each month—one programmatic and one operations—based on the excellence of their work and demonstration of Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity and Teamwork.

January 2020 PSE Employee of the Month – operations category

  • Marcia Wood, in the Nanoscience and Technology (NST) division, is recognized for initiating a thorough review of NST work control documents (WCD) for the new AWARE lab system, organizing two workshops for analysis of work hazards and leading various teams to formulate and streamline standard operating procedures. Wood assisted the custodians of the documents and the Environment, Safety and Health (ESH) coordinator to ensure each document had a proper review interval and hazard level in AWARE. Wood especially demonstrated the Core Values of Safety and Teamwork by interfacing with the ESH coordinator, the scientists who own WCDs, lab subject matter experts and lab personnel in charge of the AWARE and document control systems.

January 2020 PSE Employee of the Month – programmatic category

  • Magali Ferrandon, in the Chemical Sciences and Engineering (CSE) division, is recognized for her continuous support of the catalysis program and other programs in CSE. She manages and maintains the facilities with excellence, seamlessly handling the high throughput that the group experiences. Ferrandon has also established herself as a first resource on safety in her group. Her exemplary day-to-day work at the lab embodies all five of Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity and Teamwork.

Each month, the PSE Associate Laboratory Director and Division Directors review PSE Employee of the Month nominations and select recipients. All Argonne employees are eligible for nomination, including people within PSE and those who work with PSE. All PSE staff, postdocs and students are welcome to submit nominations. The call for nominations opens on the first of each month.
