January 2023 PSE Employee of the Month — Operations category
- Cheryl Mark (PSE) recently assisted the Nanoscience and Technology (NST) division with a proposal submission. Mark had a short timeline for the project and the budgeting requirements were demanding. She worked on the most difficult part of the proposal submission and ensured that everything was submitted by the deadline. Her contributions represented Argonne’s Core Values of Integrity, Impact and Teamwork.
January 2023 PSE Employees of the Month – Programmatic category
- Henry Chan, Christopher Fry, Troy Loeffler and Subramanian Sankaranarayanan (NST) developed a fully autonomous computational search engine to reveal peptide sequences with high potential for self-assembly. In the past, discovery of self-assembling peptides has depended on human expertise and intuition and has been susceptible to bias. This new engine has significant impact in that it accelerates discovery of self-assembling peptides with applications ranging from tissue engineering and surface coating to catalysis and sensing. The work of this team has been published in Nature Chemistry and has strong alignment with strategic directions in PSE and the autonomous discovery strategic initiative at Argonne. The team demonstrated the Core Values of Impact and Teamwork.
Each month, the PSE Associate Laboratory Director and Division Directors review PSE Employees of the Month nominations and select recipients. All Argonne employees are eligible for nomination, including people within PSE and those who work with PSE. All PSE staff, postdocs and students are welcome to submit nominations.
