July 2019 PSE Employees of the Month

Tim Cundiff and Joe Landl are recognized as PSE Employees of the Month

The Physical Sciences and Engineering (PSE) Employees of the Month program recognizes two individuals each month—one programmatic and one operations—based on the excellence of their work and demonstration of Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity and Teamwork.

July 2019 PSE Employee of the Month – operations category

  • Joe Landl, in the Physics division, is recognized for taking the initiative to clean up and organize a maintenance area that had fallen into severe disarray. Due to Joe’s efforts, the space is now in excellent condition, the Argonne Fire Department has issued an updated open flame permit and all new equipment for open flame has been ordered. Joe also provides individuals with training and expectations on how to operate equipment and keep the area tidy.

July 2019 PSE Employee of the Month – programmatic category

  • Tim Cundiff, in the High Energy Physics division, is recognized for his contribution to the maintenance of the ATLAS Collaboration’s Tile Calorimeter of the Large Hadron Collider experiment at CERN. Tim deployed new power supplies for mobile test benches—the only testing methods to debug Tile Calorimeter electronics when power is off. He also performed Tile Calorimeter electronics maintenance 100m below ground in the ATLAS cavern in challenging locations that, at times, required a full-body harness.

Each month, the PSE Associate Laboratory Director and Division Directors review PSE Employee of the Month nominations and select recipients. All Argonne employees are eligible for nomination, including people within PSE and those who work with PSE. All PSE staff, postdocs and students are welcome to submit nominations. The call for nominations opens on the first of each month.
