The Physical Sciences and Engineering (PSE) Employees of the Month program recognizes two individuals each month—one programmatic and one operations—based on the excellence of their work and demonstration of Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity and Teamwork.

June 2020 PSE Employee of the Month – Programmatic category

• Giselle Sandi, deputy director of Argonne’s Chemical Sciences and Engineering division, is recognized for her recent contributions representing PSE in the lab’s Work Sharing Initiative Task Force, engaging PSE employees and providing them with meaningful work during the lab’s extended telecommuting period. Sandi brings enthusiasm, energy and innovation to the task force, contributing a voice for programmatic divisions and leveraging her insight from previous professional experiences. Her efforts especially reflect Argonne’s Core Values of Impact, Respect, and Teamwork.

June 2020 PSE Employee of the Month – Operations category

• Debi O’Rourke, assistant division director for Argonne’s Nanoscience and Technology division and assistant director for the Center for Nanoscale Materials, a DOE Office of Science User Facility, served as the financial point of contact for 12 proposals submitted to the ​“Data, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at DOE User Facilities” funding opportunity. She coordinated with collaborators across several institutions and prepared extensive documentation. Her extraordinary efficiency and professionalism reflect all five of Argonne’s Core Values.  

Each month, the PSE Associate Laboratory Director and Division Directors review PSE Employees of the Month nominations and select recipients. All Argonne employees are eligible for nomination, including people within PSE and those who work with PSE. All PSE staff, postdocs and students are welcome to submit nominations. The call for nominations opens on the first of each month.
