The Physical Sciences and Engineering (PSE) Employees of the Month program recognizes individuals from two categories each month — programmatic and operations — based on the excellence of their work and demonstration of Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity and Teamwork.

Kelsey Reynolds, an environmental waste specialist supporting multiple divisions within PSE, assists researchers in keeping their lab facilities organized and compliant with environmental regulations. She has also contributed significantly to Argonne’s Safe Labs 2021 Initiative, which aims to reduce the risk of potential safety incidents by disposing of legacy research samples and chemicals.

Jason Anderson and Mark Hetherington, cryogenics engineers in Argonne’s Physics division, developed a way to recover helium gas from a superconducting solenoid, reducing the amount of gas wasted. The recovery method is saving the Argonne Tandem Linac Accelerator System money and labor and conserving a limited resource. Their effort and ingenuity demonstrate Argonne’s Core Values of Impact and Teamwork.
Each month, the PSE Associate Laboratory Director and Division Directors review PSE Employees of the Month nominations and select recipients. All Argonne employees are eligible for nomination, including people within PSE and those who work with PSE. All PSE staff, postdocs and students are welcome to submit nominations. The call for nominations opens on the first of each month.
