November 2019 Employees of the Month

Julie Emery and Michael Sternberg are recognized as PSE Employees of the Month

The Physical Sciences and Engineering (PSE) Employees of the Month program recognizes two individuals each month—one programmatic and one operations—based on the excellence of their work and demonstration of Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity and Teamwork.

November 2019 PSE Employee of the Month – operations category

  • Julie Emery, in the Nanoscience and Technology division, is recognized for organizing Argonne’s October 9, 2019, National Nanotechnology Day activities, hosted by the Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM), and for exemplifying the Core Value of Impact.” As part of the day’s activities, Julie coordinated a poster session and a reception open to all Argonne employees. CNM’s event was part of a nation-wide celebration to help raise awareness of nanotechnology and the challenges and opportunities it holds for the future.

November 2019 PSE Employee of the Month – programmatic category

  • Michael Sternberg, in the Nanoscience and Technology division, is recognized for his contributions to the Spack Project, which recently received an R&D 100 Award in recognition of its high impact on science and technology. Spack is a flexible package manager for high performance computing (HPC). It works on a wide range of HPC platforms and gives users versatility in configuring code. Contributors to the project include Argonne and other research laboratories and institutions, multiple universities and a software company.

Each month, the PSE Associate Laboratory Director and Division Directors review PSE Employee of the Month nominations and select recipients. All Argonne employees are eligible for nomination, including people within PSE and those who work with PSE. All PSE staff, postdocs and students are welcome to submit nominations. The call for nominations opens on the first of each month.
