September 2019 PSE Employees of the Month

Clarence Chang and Richard Vitt are recognized as PSE Employees of the Month

The Physical Sciences and Engineering (PSE) Employees of the Month program recognizes two individuals each month—one programmatic and one operations—based on the excellence of their work and demonstration of Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity and Teamwork.

September 2019 PSE Employee of the Month – operations category

  • Richard Vitt, in the Materials Science division, is recognized for his outstanding contributions to the installation of a new dilution refrigerator within Building 241. In particular, Rich coordinated seamlessly with the building staff for facilities work and inspections, and helped the riggers with a particularly tight install. Rich was irreplaceable in solving unforeseen issues, including when the manufacturer forgot to ship some standard parts.

September 2019 PSE Employee of the Month – programmatic category

  • Clarence Chang, in the High Energy Physics division, is recognized for his ongoing leadership in cosmic microwave background (CMB) technology at Argonne and within the broader CMB-S4 community at the recent detector fabrication site review. His clear communication of the past successes of the detector fabrication team and facilities highlighted the group’s impact and readiness to take on this large project. His work and leadership at the review highlighted the value and expertise of the entire detector fabrication and experimental CMB team at Argonne.

Each month, the PSE Associate Laboratory Director and Division Directors review PSE Employee of the Month nominations and select recipients. All Argonne employees are eligible for nomination, including people within PSE and those who work with PSE. All PSE staff, postdocs and students are welcome to submit nominations. The call for nominations opens on the first of each month.
