Diagnostics

AWA Research Area of Focus

In the former case, the high-charge drive beam (up to 100nC) is extremely space-charge dominated with a peak current of approximately 10 kAmps and therefore its diagnostics require special consideration. The electron beam diagnostics development includes the investigation of multiple scattering while using pepper pots and slit scans, an extension of the optical transition radiation interferometer method to characterize space charge dominated beams, and, most recently, a projection-based  method for the single-shot measurement of transverse phase space. In the latter case, we have pioneered the drive-witness mapping method to measure both the longitudinal and transverse wakefields by scanning the separation between the drive and witness beams. More recently, we demonstrated a single-shot measurement of the wake field using a longitudinal phase space measurement system.
