New Isotopes and Nuclear Data of Heavy Neutron-Rich Nuclei Close to N=126

Heavy Ion Discussion Group - 30 September 2022

Tuomas Grahn, University of Jyväskylä

As a part of the FAIR Phase-0 experimental program, an experiment aiming to study heavy nuclei close to the r-process path and N=126 has been carried out at the GSI Fragment Separator (FRS). The experiment utilized the 1.0 AGeV 208Pb beam from the SIS18 synchrotron that was used to produce the isotopes under investigation through projectile fragmentation. The isotopes were separated and identified using the FRS and subsequently either implanted into the Si detectors, or stopped using the FRS Ion Catcher and with their mass measured with the MR-TOF mass spectrometer. The extracted nuclear properties include identification of new isotopes in terms of and and also previously unknown beta-decay properties and atomic masses. The experiment will also provide important data for the operation of Super-FRS at FAIR in terms of production cross sections of rare isotopes.
